THE BEAUTY in DIVERSITY.
Mwaramutse/Muraho/Mwirirwe.
It has been a while since I posted, I've been overwhelmed with a lot of changes and work. However, "issa" comeback. Sorry for the long wait but here is another piece I've been working on along with the help of the beautiful and talented Dulcinee Tuza. This September on wards, Bwiza bwa Mashira is going "Theme-free", meaning I will not be taking requests and the posts won't be under any topics or themes for a while.

I never truly accepted and appreciated the beauty in diversity until I grew much older. Our societies are built in a way with which we only perceive beauty from one point of view. Whatever is in the mainstream and is the norm is then believed to be one and only way to look at it. To me, this is very boring. This builds standards and division within our communities, promoting a uniform idea of what beauty is. We were not build to adhere to one idea, one practice, we are different and complicated in our nature, ironically I feel like this should bring us closer. In our differences we are still skin and bone and that is, to me, the collateral beauty of things.
So, why this topic? Why celebrate the beauty in diversity? It would seem as though more people are becoming aware and accepting themselves. For example in the black community, by attaching the Melanin hashtag or #melaninonfleek it should somehow prove to society that we are aware and self loving of who we are, but after posting that picture or video, does it truly justify the acceptance and celebration or is just another hashtag? how many of us actually appreciate our features the way they are without contouring, lightening or with the use of a filter here and there? I am not shading anyone who has done that... but just critically think if putting that hashtag reflects how you truly feel. Another question to raise is... are insecurities derived from the portrayal of the mainstream beauty? It would make sense that insecurities are derived from what we consume from society as to what the uniform, ideal beauty should be.
It is good to however, to appreciate the trend of promoting a natural lifestyle, mostly in the black community as well as the fashion industry with a more diverse platform. The clothes look more delightful now, non?

On my journey to self love I came to an understanding of me and my insecurities, I understood my body and that it is different, it is beautiful and I've grown to love it more. I encourage more people to look in the mirror, with less clothes or less make up. Feel the different bumps, curves and textures of your body, appreciate your inherited features, get familiar with your reflection and encourage yourself to be comfortable in your own skin.
unlocking your mind about your beauty is the first step...
"our ability to reach unity in diversity is will be the beauty and the test of our civilization"- Mahatma Gandhi.
There is a beauty in the difference, it comes in different shapes and sizes, we should embrace it in the variety it embodies. Different shades, sundry cultures...
I chose to celebrate the beauty in diversity because it is not only the diversity that makes us who we are but furthermore, for me, it signifies something deeper. It personifies human nature, that even our chaos, conflict and differences we are the same....we are terrified of change that we choose to get comfortable and pick something that converges to the same interests. Beauty in diversity is a somewhat an extension of how complex and intricate we can be yet so fascinating and beautiful in our own way.
Human Identity lies in the diversity of not only our looks but in the way we behave, our expressions, our roots, who we are. It is with the beauty in diversity that the world is colourful.
We should therefore consistently celebrate and promote the idea of beauty in diversity. In our society today and the upcoming generations. It is crucial to surface such knowledge and educate ourselves to love and appreciate as well as celebrate the beauty in diversity, the collateral beauty and the world for what it is, diverse.
Self love and acceptance.
