HEALTHY SNACKS: Easy snack ideas.

Dear Reader,
Mwaramutse/ Mwiriwe/ Muraho

I missed you reading my thoughts....here is a quick tip to improve your health & lifestyle...

Welcome back to Bwiza bwa Mashira! This time I would love to indulge you into something different. I think it will be fun and that it will help you on your health journey. When I started out with my healthy lifestyle, it was quite difficult to find it exciting. Moreover, coming from a Rwandan perspective the whole, "ntabwo uriye" or "kubera iki wishonjesha?" you haven't eaten, you are starving yourself. Nevertheless, the healthy way always remains the right way. I hope you enjoy this post and feel free to ask for alternatives!

One of the tips I always use to help me minimize my food intake is; you shouldn't feel full to feel like you've eaten, as long as you are not feeling hungry, there is no need to overeat. I find that one's mindset plays a big role, you just have to convince yourself.

Reka dutangire!
  1. Cabbage rolls! Cabbage rolls very easy to make and are very delicious. You'll need one tablespoon of peanut butter, tomatoes, carrots, quarter of a white onion and half a table spoon of apple cider vinegar. Mix carrots, dice half a tomato, shred 1carrot, dice quarter an onion. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients and add the cider vinegar. On a cabbage roll, spread the peanut butter and put the mix on it. Fold the bottom first then bring both sides to the center, secure the roll with a toothpick and you're good to go. The peanut butter helps give the right amount of protein for your energy and less calories. The bittersweet effect is just perfect.
  2. Carrots and cucumbers! Another yummy alternative is carrots and cucumber. Add 2 big spoons of soy sauce and apple cider vinegar. Cut 1carrot and 1 cucumber however you like, I prefer to dice mine, mix this all ina bowl and add 1/2 a spoon of cinnamon. mix it all up and you're good to go!
  3. Rice rolls!... basically vegetable sushi. I know a few people I've done these for and they are usually big fans. Boil some rice and make sure it is sticky. I find it harder to do this with Japanese rice unless you use an egg white to stick. Basmati or any other local rice will do too. Spread the rice on a cling film wrapper, you'll need 1 avocado slice, half a cucumber and 1carrot. Dice the avocado, the cucumber and carrot. Spread it evenly and begin rolling using the cling film. Once this is done you can choose to slice them into many pieces or have the whole roll as a meal.
  4. Plain yoghurt with a twist!Yummmmyyyyy this is also another one that hit the spot for me especially when I need something sweet. Grab a bowl of plain yoghurt and add some fruits. You can use any fruits you desire but I prefer to use bananas, strawberries and  mango. Cut up half a banana, 3 strawberries, dice half a mango and add nuts. I love almonds and cashews for this!
  5. Fruit bowls! the last and super easy alternative. I think for everyone fruit bowls/ fruit salad is pretty common. This can be done with done with any fruits of your choice. I prefer using fruits that don't have a lot of fluids in them so it's even easier to pack and on the go.

Hope this helps in your health Journey! Feel free to ask any questions.
